Mystery Jars contain the distilled essence of time.

Years ago, I had a pile of old letters, photographs, cards and other mementos. I didn't want to keep them, but I also didn't want to just throw them away. So I shredded them and kept their fragments in jars.

In losing their form, these objects became less personal and more universal

I started collecting pieces of the world, and people started sending me fragments: the crumbling brick dust of Venice, stones from the Ganges River, peppercorns from Zanzibar, salt from the Andes Mountains, volcanic ash from Ischia, silk threads from the Dalai Lama's camp in Dharamsala, mint tea from Doha, pastries from Paris, glass from Murano.

I create Mystery Jars on commission and would love to hear from you.
